Jewish Federations Mourn Passing of Beau Biden

New York – Last night, the Office of the Vice President announced that Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III z”l, the son of Vice President Joe Biden and former Delaware Attorney General, passed away at the age of 46 after a battle with brain cancer. Biden is survived by his wife, Hallie, and their two children.

The Jewish Federations of North America expressed its condolences to the Biden family, noting Beau Biden’s integrity and generosity of spirit.

Michael Siegal, chair of the JFNA Board of Trustees, and Diane (Dede) S. Feinberg, chair of the Executive Committee, issued the following statement

“Our heartfelt condolences go out today to Vice President Biden and his entire family following this tragic news. An army veteran and dedicated public servant, Beau Biden stood out to all who knew him as a man of courage, a man of integrity and a man of genuine goodwill. The Vice President himself put it best during his address at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, when he turned to his son and said:

‘You know, folks, my dad used to have an expression. He'd say, ‘A father knows he's a success when he turns and looks at his son or daughter and know that they turned out better than he did.’ I'm a success; I'm a hell of a success.’

“Our prayers are with the Biden family during this difficult time. Zikhrono livrakha – may his memory be for a blessing.”
